Lucky me, we had an extended power cut in Redhill yesterday, with no power for nearly eight hours. I do not have a back up generator for my incubator and am currently incubating six clutches. The incubator temperature dropped down to 77F for several hours.

The Morelia eggs are due to hatch next week, but the ringed and womas have another month to go. What do you think? Have I lost the lot?

Positive comments or commiserations appreciated.

Regards
Rob Crying or Very sad

What temps were you incubating at before the cut?

Good luck with them!

My mistake was to re heat them to fast i think Confused

gradually re heat them is the key ,lets face it cold shouldnt kill them to fast but to hot and that wont take long to fry them

good luck

That sounds quite a big temp drop then. You may be lucky and have just added a couple of days to the length of the incubation period but I guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.

What Morelia are you incubating?

Cheers for the comments guys.

The incubator slowly returned to it's optimum temperature rather than returning immediately to 89F.....I just hope not too slowly.

There are a couple of jungle carpet clutches and a 50% jungle/jag clutch.

Anyone else have any experience of the effect of prolonged reduced temperatures?

Thanks
Rob

Personally I don't think a short term drop in temp will do any harm at all, I unplugged my incubator for over a week last year and didn't lose too much at all.

Steve, I think you're right, warming them up too fast is probably more dangerous.

Forgot to say, what it did do was to increase incubation time from a normal 55 days up to 80+ days Laughing

I did have a few dead in shell and I do put that down to the prolonged low temp NOT from the short no heat for a week (I had set the incubator up wrong to start with and the temps were in the low 80's, plus no heat for at least a week).

Too much heat KILLS, too cool and it just slows things down Wink
