One of my dogs found these yesterday. A Montpellier snake eating a Eyed lizard
and one I found last year.

Its a bit bittersweet really. Good to see the snake, but this is one of the eyeds that was living by our house. I suspect the snakes will wipe them out !
I have seen very few snakes this year, but in the last week found our first southern smooth snake, and this morning out early to let the chickens out, saw both a viperine and a ladder snake before breakfast ! |

I spend a large part of the year in Portugal. So far, I think we have found 21 species of reptile and amphibian on the farm here. This includes 6 species of snakes. |

Thanks....
Southern Smooth snake, first one found about a week ago, and found again a few days later in the same spot it was released. It was found on the ground, on a path, not in the tree. No hint of aggression from the snake at all.

If you look carefully in the first pics, you can see the evidence from the eaten almond nut shells that the snakes here will not go hungry if they can't find a lizard. |
