I purchased a pair of Blood Pythons towards the end of 2007, the guy i bought them from said that there was a very good chance that the female was gravid. I wasn't convinced, but when she started lying on her side i thought great, she may be gravid after all. Well 4 months down the line ( from when she first started lying on her side ) she is still doing it. Do you think she is just more comfy sitting in this position or could there be something a bit more sinister causing her to sit like this?
Your thoughts please......... _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

Lack of replies maybe down to people not knowing mate..certainly doesn't sound normal to me..I have kept plenty of bloods and none of them exhibited this behaviour..I would get it to a vet and get it checked over if I were you! _________________

Hi Fraser, quite often you'll find Blood Pythons lying on their sides to cool down, or through lazyness! _________________ www.BloodBall.co.uk - Specialising in Blood & Short-Tailed Python Morphs and Locales, and Ball Python Morphs |

She looks in perfect health, outwardly at least, she certainly has a great appetite and loves her weekly baths.
I thought it could have something to do with temperatures but i have checked numerous times with my laser thermostat and her enclosure is holding consistent optimum temperatures.
Laziness sounds more like it to me!!!! _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

Gravid females have a tendency to lie on their sides or completely on their backs. It is their way of thermoregulating - controlling the heat reaching the eggs. Gravid ball Pythons do this regularly. _________________ If you don't know, ask! |
