Great video Peter, also recorded in some of the North American wood turtles.

Some great research on this whole area of cryobiology was conducted at the University of Notre Dame, if anyones interested I could see if I could dig up some of the papers?

Certainly fascinating Cool

JM Storey, KB Storey. 1985. Triggering of cryoprotectant synthesis by the initiation of ice nucleation in the freeze tolerant frog, Rana sylvatica. Journal of Comparative Physiology B: Biochemical, Systemic, and Environmental Physiology

Review:

KB Storey, JM Storey. 1992. Natural Freeze Tolerance in Ectothermic Vertebrates. Annual Reviews in Physiology

Chelonids:
