Hey there

What would you sey the minimum viv size is for a bosc with lots of free-roaming time

Adult? 8x4x4. I personally wouldn't go any smaller.

8X4X4 IS A BIT EXTREME FOR A BOSC COME ON! 6x2x2 is fine plus its a lot more easier to maintain than a 8X4X4

2Ft wide is a bit slim for a lizard that can reach up to 4ft in length. Minimum should be 6x3x3, with the intention of a possible upgrade for the future.

Ive got a bosc Ive had it for 7 yrs and shes maxed out at 2 1/2 ft and shes in 4x2x2 and is in superb condition. i give her the extra space by letting her roam the room every now and then. so 8x4x4 is madness for a bosc zoos keep Asian water monitors in smaller Viv's than that.

Yes, a 6x2x2 probably is easier to maintain. but is it fair for the animal? it would just about be able to turn around. too small enclosure size is one of the reasons so many CB boscs are obese.

well mine is far from it Ive made sure shes in prime health and she runs about like a baby bosc after crickets and locust and for whatever i offer her. i think people over size enclosures for reptiles.

Sorry, but i would have to disagree with your last comment mate. Enclosures seem to be getting smaller IMO.

I had a 28" female Bosc in a 6x3x3.5 enclosure, and it still looked too small once it was filled with a deep bed of substrate, ply boards, and logs.

In my short experience with monitor lizards they are a high maintenance animal that require large enclosures.

boscs have a tendency to get very lazy when older if they were as active as an argus i would say a 6x2x2 is just cruel but for a bosc it would be fine as a minimum size enclosure if properly decorated so the hide was length ways so the bosc wouldnt have a curled tail as it slept

I wonder if being fed too much of wrong diet, ie rodents, might account for their laziness Wink
