Hi
At what age do people cut their male Yemens feeding down and give them larger insects?
I am currently feeding him about 12 small-medium locusts a day, he still doesnt look fat at all if anything slightly under weight.
I have tried to give him slightly larger locusts but he doesnt like them as much, he will eat them when he gets hungry but much prefers lots of smaller ones rather than the larger size.
They are all gut loaded with vegetables and fruits.

Am about to start cutting down mine on their food intake as of today.. I can see them both staring at me as I type this looking for some feeding

What size are you going to be feeding them and how often?
I think I will order medium size next and start giving him fewer and see how he gets on. I will post a pic of him later so you can see the size of him and let me know if you think its the right thing to do.
How old are yours now and have you got any pics? it would be nice to see how Vernon is getting on compared to similar aged Yemens.

mine were 6weeks old in november when I got them, I feed them large size (sub adult locusts).

they will take as many as I offer.

Just a couple of recent photos of Vernon so you can all see how he is doing.
What size locusts do you think he should be fed on and how often?

How is the feeding going?

Mine is only litttle (The chameleon that is) and I think he could eat something a bit bigger than the crickets.

Hi thanks for the reply.
The feeding is going ok I think, this time I bought medium sized locusts and as before he doesn't seem so keen on them.
He seems to be eating about 3-4 every 2 or 3 days. It seems like he is only eating them when he gets really hungry.
I'm not sure if this is the normal amount or not because I'm sure if I put small ones in with him he would scoff all of them.
Do you think I should carry on with the medium size locusts or go back to the smaller ones?

Hiya (is it Matt or Gem Laughing )

Sorry for not replying...I usually post in the cham section...sometimes you just miss threads or get busy...

Your boy looks like he could eat a horse by now Very Happy Adult crickets will be fine...but he will probably take bigger things if you try him...locusts are good, big wormy things like superworms. Bear in mind the big chams can also take smaller insects too, and the more variety the better. At this time of year it is good to go into the long grass (where there are few cars or pesticides used) and sweep with a net. You will pick up loads of flies, moths, hoppers, spiders etc. Stick them in with the chams and they will think it's Xmas! Laughing I'm gonna go sweeping soon Very Happy
