I was goin' to get a glass viv for some cresties and now I'm considering getting a mesh viv but I don't know which is best??? Can someone give me some "pro's" and "con's" for them both, please???
Also, I'm confused.... Won't substrate fall out of mesh vivs?
Thanks for any help! |

Personally, I would go with glass, as they hold humidity better, you can see the gecko better, and they are more readily available.

Substrate won't fall out as long as you buy the approriate tray. |

Pro's Glass
readily available (exo terra vivs are perfect)
reasonably priced
easy to clean
good vision
Con's
Heavy
easy to break
poor air ventilation (unless using exo terra vivs)
Pro's Mesh screen Vivs
light weight
great ventilation
Con's
harder to clean without empting entire viv
easy to damage mesh
I personally would recommend the Exo Terra Vivs (go to www.eurorep.net, they can deliver) for anyone keeping just a few cresteds.
I actually use myself Screen Vivs, currently over 30 in use for my crested and other rhaco geckos. _________________

I'm probably once again wrongly informed here.. but when we brought our wood and glass viv we were told that cresties can get freaked out in a all glass one as they don't have any privacy as such and can be viewed from a 360 angle... |

lol.....well yes that could be true but then ONLY if you leave the viv empty of any hides etc. Cresteds are not a 'shy/nervous' reptile, just nocturnal so that's the only reason they hide away. With reptiles it's not so much the actual cage but how you set it up. _________________
