You need to use a router and cut a grove for the cable to sit in Smile

ok cheers. and do i need to double it up or can i just use one bit on each shelf and use something to disperse the heat over a larger area?

no it doesnt tom. and i didnt cut a grove or use a router, and neither does anyone i know that uses it.

Ailurus:

If you are still thinking about using plasticboxes, you can cut holes in it and put mesh there for the uv, to pass through. I wouldn´t put the uv-tube in the back though, as it will be hard to change it. Better to put it in a "front corner".

i thought UV tubes were dangerous for snakes??

no UV tubes are not dangerous, they are actually beneficial, they allow you to see the snake and also aid the snake in producing calcium, this decreases the chance of them getting MBD. also in the wild snakes are provided with UV anytime they like, so why would it be dangerous in captivity.
