I wouldnt recommend crickets as food for them, they carry some sort of bacteria that can kill a perfectly healthy mantis in a very short time, it might not happen the 1st, 3rd or 10th time you feed one to it but trust me it will at some point
I would say go to your local fishing tackle shop and order some undyed maggots and then keep them warm so they pupate and hatch into flies, these are the best insect prey you can offer them. I gut load my adult flies with honey and fruit puree.
Second to cockroaches, mealworns, wax worms/moths etc and wild caught insects of summer.
Nice photo of a nice mantis, best of luck with it (you'll be alright as long as you keep away from crickets) do you have a few/ ie a pair?

this is my first bohan. he arrived yesterday and has had 2 locusts. but will get him some mealworms and waxies too. he is so beautiful when you actually see him. and i plan on getting more too. i wouldnt give crickets as i have seen the damage the can do to lizards never mind these.

i just hope im getting everything right. im going to get a slightly bigger container for him.

The best and most natural food for these insects are flies, they can be bought in small numbers from fishing tackle shops:

Squatts = houseflies
Pinkies = greenbottles
Maggots = bluebottles

If you keep them warm, not hot as they dessicate easily they should hatch in about 12 - 14 days into the adult flies, mantids cant resist the speed and fast movements of flies Smile
