Do you have them in together? Sometimes they can mistakenly bite each other tails which can cause the bitten one to panic and drop it. Similarly if a cricket bites the tail the chewie can panic. Their tails only regenerate slightly, I have one with about an inch long tail from where the male bit hers off when breeding. They look a bit strange with a short tail but it doesnt affect them climbing or anything so it should be fine, just keep an eye on the stump so it doesnt get infected, its unusual fr that to happen but better safe than sorry.

Could anything have spooked it? ie. other animals on the room, cat, dog, birds, snakes etc. From what I have read it is very unusual for a chahoua to drop it's tail.
