just had a look on rfuk and came across this gem of a question. Now I know some of us (esp me) ask some silly questions on here, but this takes the biscuit for sheer lack of biological knowledge

Breeding of venomous x non-venomous?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi i was just thinking

1)is it even possible to do that? is it like zebra x horse or cow x pig?

2)if it is possible you rekon the babies would be deformed?

3)anyone ever tried?

It certainly wouldn't suprise me if it WAS possible, I doubt if too many people have tried so far but I bet someone has.

Tigers and lions are in the same genus -Panthera- and so are compatible. Cheetah are not and I have not seen any Lion x Cheetah, but even if there are they are in the same family -Felidae.
Most natural crosses occur in fish
Roach x Rudd both cyprinids
rainbow trout x brown trout both salmonids
all the same genus

I am no expert, but are there any venomous/non-venomous in the same genus that would therefore be compatible. if there are, I stand corrected
