Just curious to know if anyone is keeping these amazing tortoises in PRIVATE collections in the UK and if so how do you feel the tortoises cope with the climate etc? _________________

I know someone who keeps them here in the Netherlands, he has a small herd Very cool animals. Since the climate is very similar, it shouldn't be a problem in the UK either. He's had them for many years, but hasn't bred them yet. You'd need a large heated enclosure for the winter and cooler days in summer and a large area outside for summer.
Here are my girls having fun with one of the torts. It was so cue to see the tort raise itself and stretch out its neck to be stroked

Imagine the size of the dandelion they would need !!!!
I'd hate to think of the price tag that goes along with a tortoise that size.
Thinking of a new project Scott ???? |

just thinking it through
25 years to sexual maturity doesn't make them much of a breeding project...still I guess it's something nice to leave to any grand children I may have _________________

Cheers Ron, great pic. Even looks pretty dull and cold yet they are out and about.
Do you know the heating method for the winter enclosure? _________________

Yeah, just ask Nige how he keeps his
Apparently he has lots of animals.
I imagine you'd need a massive garden! Hate to think of the grocery bill too! _________________

This was at the beginning of October, so not that warm Although there was some sunshine from time to time. The winter enclosure is sort of a greenhouse with heated floors and double glazing, looked very nice. If you are seriously considering keeping them and are ever in my neighborhood get in touch and I'll see if we can visit him. _________________ Please visit Ron's Reptiles to see my collection
