If there's a edge for the rats to get thier teeth into (which on that there willbe) they will chew right through it in a matter of time mate also rats can squeeze through the tiniest of gaps Wink

Spend a little more on mesh wood and plastic seamless trays mate will save money and agro at a later date.

as paul says if the can get their head into a gap they will just chew it till its a bigger gap then they will be out.save your money and buy a second hand lab rack, they arent cheap but they make life very easy and they are so efficient

Also those tubs are completely unsuitable as they are not ventilated enough. There is a very good reason why traditional caging has completely vented tops (wire mesh or bars)

There is plenty of ventilation!

Would it be any different for mice?

Jack rats produce huge amounts of ammonia and fecal matter so need a huge amount of ventilation... these may work for leopard geckos you have but wont for rats Wink
