Whats everyones take on this?

"Investigation of Europe’s largest reptile fair
Wildlife dealers from all over Europe gathered to sell mostly wild-caught reptiles at the Terraristika reptile fair in Hamm, Germany on the 15 March 2008.

In hot, crowded halls, our investigators witnessed stall upon stall of suffering animals in takeaway containers. Often these plastic tubs were so small that the animals inside them were barely able to move. On viewing footage from the event, Clifford Warwick, Consultant Biologist, gave us his opinion:

"Within only seconds of viewing the tape of the Hamm 2008 Pet Fair, captivity-stress-related behaviours in reptiles are plain to see. Similarly, cramped, poorly conceived, containers and a nearly complete lack of catering to even basic biological needs reveals the disturbing, bordering on moronic, ignorance of those displaying and selling these highly sensitive animals. The presence of venomous snakes at this pet fair is yet another example of a business that is dangerously out of control.

Conditions at pet fairs are notoriously dismal and, likewise, animal wellbeing is drawn downward by a spiral of abuse and stress. So poor is the animal welfare at pet fairs such as Hamm, that the UK Government, in its wisdom, has banned these events.

While this pet fair may have attained new heights of physical scale, it has again provided testimony of all that is rotten in the keeping of exotic pets."

Most reptiles arrive in the UK via Germany (the largest importer of reptiles in the EU) and many dealers buy reptiles from this particular fair to sell at a profit back in the UK. Our joint investigation with the Animal Protection Agency involved gathering data on the types of species on sale as well as the standard of animal husbandry at the event.

Very interesting indeed. I have not been to a European show so i wouldn't like to comment.

What i will say, and have said all along, is that the reptile community has to police itself, not only at shows but breeders and shops too. Otherwise other organisations will do the policing on our, usually detrimental, behalf!!! If proof were needed we only have to look at the restrictions being proposed on our American friends!!!

things taken from the wild will always show stress related behaviour. look at elephants in zoos. even horses not allowed the freedom of a field shows this behaviour.
if people are willing to attend these events then they will go on. and if they insist on buying such reptiles and animals the capture of wild stock will go on too.

I was just thinking that! Diploma of Medical Science? European Countries biologists association award something of biology?? Chartered biologist??? Fellow of the Royal Society of Health (WTF!!??) Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health (???) Fellow of the Institute of Biology

Where's his degree? Surely such an impressive and educated academic has a degree? None of these "qualifications are worth jack 'poo' in the real world, but they serve to add weight to any report that he attaches his name to when read by gullible people

oh sorry. i thought you wanted opinions on what he found. doesnt it worry you all about these shows that he is talking about. and i dunno if his qualifications are real..............iv never heard of the guy. but if you type them into google that should tell you.

sorry Lynne, I thought you may of known warwicks history.

He has been trying to get the hobby stopped for almost a decade, he briefly switched over to pet birds when the bird flu struck (obviously an eaiser target at the time) but worrying it looks like he's back on the reptile scene.

He's managed to create this fake sense of self importance that unfortunately a lot of the media 'buy into'.
