Hi all. How quickly do cresties grow?? Ive had my young ones since end of November and even tho they have grown its not by much. I feed them mainly on CGD and the occasional mini meal worms and crickets but they have not grown much. What is a good way to bulk them up a bit?

I'm glad you brought this up cuz I have the same problem with my juvi crestie. He just aint getting bigger (in general).

Wax worms can help put weight on but from what I understand they are quite fatty and can just make them fat as to "beefy"!

i remember reading somewhere on this forum that cresties fed mainly on CGD dont grow as quickly as ones fed mainly on live food so maybe it might be worth feeding them more locusts, crickets and mealworms and see if that has an effect.

Hi,
I think that they grow slower on CGD, but There is no problem with that.
Mine have been fed on CGD from when i got them and have just started giving them a few more crickets.
As I said try live food but there is no reason to be worried.
My 4 are around 18g and a year old.
I I had fed live food I would expect them to be around 40g by now.
Same with my gargoyles.

Ill try with more live food but its hard to get them small enough. They are only around 5 and 6grams. If they grow slower on CGD then I'm not too worried. Many thanks all.

It also depends on the size of the enclosure they are in, as if they have to chase live food around a large space they will burn off what they are eating trying to catch the next meal, much the same applies to the CGD, apart from them having to chase it of course, but the larger the area they have to run about in between feeds the faster they will burn off the calories. Mine will eat either CGD or Mini Mealies but no other live food, so if your worried leave a few mini mealies in a small dish all the time, that way they can pick and choose which captive dinner they want Very Happy

I do give then mini meal worms as they are easier to get hold of. They are in a small plastic Geo type Viv as they are only small. They are eating so I'm not bothered in that sense its just they are still tiny.

You'll probably wake up one morning and think someone has switched them out for bigger ones, they seem to go from tiny to huge overnight! Laughing
