very swish! do you have a temperature controlled room? I'm planning on having a full mesh cage but I'm concerned because it is in a bedroom and i have three outside facing walls, may be hard to maintain temperature. I was thinking of designing some kind of hood that would allow me to use a heat lamp. |

do you use heat lamps on them though? i still live with my folks so keeping my room at 60 is out of the question, i don't find my panthers a problem because i dint keep them in complete mesh enclosures so the temperature is unaffected by what is going on outside. Really I'm just trying to think of a suitable way i can keep merus, i can use a basking lamp for day time temp but i think using a heat lamp on every single enclosure is going to be quite costly! from what i understand they can not be kept in an enclosure that isn't fully ventilated, is that correct? would it not be possible to just have a mesh front? thanks for your help Karen, your my no1 chameleon guru! |

I use a low wattage basking light along with a 10% UV they stay on for 12 hrs, at night the temps drop really low i have no heating at all in the utility room.
I think a mesh door and mesh roof would work no probs, and yes its very costly running loads of basking lights and UVs i know!!! _________________

that's handy to know about the heat lamps, do you do this with your panthers as well, if i could eradicate the heat lamps then there would be no end to my cham collection lol, its interesting to know other peoples husbandry techniques as i guess there is no exact science, we all do things a little differently. So if i were to use a screen cage like yours and just use a basking lamp and uvb then in reason it would be possible for me too keep merus. |
