I know there is no such thing as a 'silly question' but as i tended my Day Gecko Vivariums today and i thought - "How well does the 'beneficial' part of the light, produced by an ultraviolet bulb, pass through glass or plastic?"
I know that you can't get burnt by the suns raise when sitting in the car with your windows up, as the windows actually block the suns harmful rays, i assume this would be the case with light bulbs and glass or plastic vivariums!! ( just for the record, my light bulbs are on top of Exo Terra tanks and only penetrate through mesh )
Anyone got any ideas or technical information? _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

strictly speaking even mesh can block UV rays. if the gaps in the mesh match the amplitude, or wavelength of the rays then they can be nulified.
