I always thought that cheynei was a small subspecies but many people seem to have giant Coastal size "jungles". Are these real cheynei? Were the first lines brought in from the US just small one's? _________________ For more information on all my herping activities please visit the new website at www.prestigepythons.com |

I believe so Dave. All of our original Mattison animals are quite small where as like you say some of our newer stock is huge. We acquired a small group of WC animals via a friend with a zoo license and they are large to say the least. Our female is 8ft and obviously you don't get any more pure than WC Cheynei. |

From what I gather different locals/populations of Cheynei come in colours different sizes, colours and dispositions. The Jungles from heavily forested ravein areas are thought to be the smaller more colourful and possibly more aggressive examples whilst those from the more open forested areas(Tablelands)can grow to a bigger size some over 7ft plus. |

Nice Jungle Dave.
Well I know that mine are pure and quite big too, but they are not anywhere near as large as a coastal can get.
I think its just the normal captive care feeding that makes them a bit larger than maybe they should be, but we do like to spoil them.

I would imagine this to be the main reason although it could be that different localities can vary in size as some coastals do. Nice jungle by the way. |
