Hello All,

I’m new to this site and reptile keeping in general. However I have been doing a lot of reading over the past few weeks especially on this site.

I recently purchased a beautiful Sambava Panther Chameleon (Rambo – due to his current colours) from Lee Warren (thanks Lee) and I’m building him a new viv for when he’s big enough – about two weeks from now I guess. The viv size will be around 60cm x 70~80cm x 45~50cm. The viv will have a mesh lid for ventilation and ventilation grilles at the bottom

For heating I’m thinking about using the Habistat day/night dimmer thermostat and a 60w ceramic heat emitter with shield. Is this ok given the size viv or should it be a higher wattage? Will he be ok with only one source of heating?

For lighting I’m planning to use the Exo Terra Light Dimming Terrarium Lamp Controller with Exo Terra Repti Glo 5.0. I’ve been advised by a local shop to put the lights down either side of the viv. Is this ok or should the lighting come from the top of the viv instead? Does anyone here use night lights for their Chameleons?

I would also like to fit a misting system in there because when I mist the viv he generally makes his way into the line of fire and loves it…. Any recommendations from personal experience?

I’m also looking into building a Gecko viv under Rambo's. Would this be ok as heat rises and all that kind of stuff?

Any suggestions / ideas on improving this setup would be much appreciated.

Thanks

KC

Hi there - Welcome to the forum! Very Happy

I'm afraid I have no idea about chams - but I'm sure if you posted your specific questions about light/heat/humidity etc on the Chameleon forum they will be able to help you out - they are a friendly bunch! Maybe they just haven't strayed onto the Vivarium forum for a while.

Anyone else have any cham viv experience?

Hi Carol,

Thanks for your reply...

I have posted this on there as well but no replies. Oh well I guess I’ll just have to do what I think is right as he’s getting big quick... maybe I asked to many questions in one post?!

The viv sounds great Very Happy i can only tell you how i have my lights placed and maybe that will help a bit Very Happy I have both the UV and basking light resting on the mesh on top of the viv. The basking light is on a dimmer stat and i use 10% UV as its outside of the viv.
I dont use any lights at night and i use no extra heating it never gets super cold in the room they are Very Happy
I use a spot bulb for light and heat during the day with no ceramic
Misters, i have a couple of the lucky reptile ones and they work a treat and arnt terribly expensive, i think they are called rain makers or the like Very Happy Hope that helps a bit anything i have forgotten just shout Laughing and i am sure Lee will be along to help too Very Happy

Hi Stuart, thanks I appreciate your help.

Hi Karen, Thanks for all your advise.

I think I should use a ceramic as the room may get below 70 a night, least I can keep him warm with out any light and i'll use a day and night thermostat.

I'll also mount the lights in the lid then instead of down the side. My reasoning for down the side was so that he could get the UV where ever he was in the viv.

Thanks,

KC Smile

My room drops below 70 and mine are fine Very Happy but if you are worried just use the ceramic at night Very Happy
