Hi Everyone, I have discovered today much to my delight that I may be able to get hold of some panthers, the only problem is that being a research-a-holic I like to know as much as I can so that can spt any problems immediately. I read Ricks very iformative sticky, but wondered if anyone could advise as to locals and the ideal setup and other essential husbandry requirements.
At this point I haven't fully decided to go ahed with them until I know more about where they are coming from and how to house them so they are safe and happy, and I would rather decide not to get them than both of us suffer. I've been told that they will be ggrown on and stong, and they will come through a VERY trusted source
Thanks for any help that can be offered, and any pictures of setups that people find work would be GRATEFULLY appreciated. I feel a Karen coming along shortly _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Thanks Karen that would be lovely. I think it's better to talk to people about their experience, there is only so much that books tell you, that's why the forums are great, we can all get together right across the planet _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Thanks Karen, your right Vinny is VERY handsome The setups are a lot less elaborate than I expected as well. Can I ask roughtly what the dimensions are on your wooden vivs and what lighting your using. I noticed the arcadia starter units and the spot bulb holders, and I'm guessing that you have mesh in the top and the strip across the bottom is also mesh to allow through venting of air.
I'm looking to get something custom built to fit into my alcoves in my living room, as we know a very useful chap, and was wondering if a juvenile/sub adult would be ok to go straight into something that sort of size, or possibly even a couple into that sort of size, unless Panthers are another species that don't do weel in groups or would be better started off in something smaller.
I know Yemens are happy in the all mesh variety as they like plenty of ventilation without draughts, but I know the Panthers like a bit more humidity, other than that I'm still in the research stages
Thanks again for the piccies, muchly appreciated ;D _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Ok vivs are 36x 24x 18. I use reptisun 10% Uv and a 60 watt bulb on a dimmer stat. Mesh on the whole top and across the botom gives good airflow A sub adult would be ok in that size i would say, i personally wouldnt keep them together, but i do beleive some have. I started my babies off in small exos then moved up till i felt they were of a size to go in adult vivs hope that helps Claire _________________

Thanks Karen. They look much bigger than that, the vivs that is I've got a spare starter unit here that was left over from the bearded dragons, as they have been upgraded to a mercury vapour bulb, but I think one of those would be too powerful for the chams, I'll have to check as they provide both heat and uva/uvb and would do wonders for their colours, it certainly has for my beardies
Thanks for the help Karen, and Your little boy is absolutely STUNNING _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Hi Claire
I use a Zoomed Powersun UV flood 100 watt lamp for my Nosey Be Malcolm. It sits on top of a 48 inch high flexarium, to keep the humidity up I have put plastic sheet on the outside of the sides & covered the back with Exoterra background. It is full of plants &vines. This has worked well for me & Malcolm seems really happy he has turned out to be a stunning blue & has grown well lovely & stocky. Hope this helps. Heather. |

Thank Heather, I'll do more investigating before I commit to anything anyway, I don't want to take Panthers on and not know what I'm doing or let them down in anyway, it wouldn't be fair to them. I love the difference the Mercury Vapour has made to my Beardies, so if it was possible to use one with a cham set at the right height to give the right balance of UV and Heat that would be nice, and the light really cheers the house up as well _________________ www.draco2.co.uk
