This is just me being nosy, would members mind posting what Species in the Rhacs group they keep/breed and specific issues they have found with care etc. Its to get an overview of the Group as a whole and I thought it might be interesting for those of us that don't have a huge amount of contact with these gorgeous animals, piccies would be good too. I've got Cresties and would love more Rhacs so this would also be a good guide to how to expand further into keeping these xxxxxxx

Ok....

cresteds, gargoyles, mossy's. Had eggs from the leachies but they weren't fertile, I think this year will be there first proper season.

I keep them all identical, the Mossy's seem to prefer insects, the leachies much prefer the CGD mix and the cresteds/gargoyles are happy on crickets or CGD (although not fed my adults any insects for over 6 months now).

Regarding babies Scott do you just downsize vivs and group them and do you have a top number for a group of babies or do you just go on space til you can sex em out hon, do you have pics of your different types I feel in need of a drool Laughing

Adults are kept on newspaper but babies are kept on damp compacted peat. Group wise it all depends, sometimes there may be 50 to a group. I slowly thin the numbers down as they grow. Eventually I end up with groups of 10-12, I then finally sex them and set them up in 1.6 to 1.8, sometimes 2.10 (on the cresteds) gargs are 1.5's, mossy's in pairs, leachies in 1.2's

I keep cresteds (1:3), gargolyes (3:5), chahouas (1:1) and leachies (1:1).

Like Scott I keep them all more or less the same. Diet wise mine all get fresh fruit (blended) and livefoods and my leachies get fuzzies/pinkies every now and then.

I have successfully bred Cresteds and gargoyles. However I did have trouble getting gargoyles to hatch (they were going full term in the egg but dying as they hatched). The incubation medium was the problem for me. I was using vermiculite which I have used for crested eggs with no problems. With hindsight (and chats with other keepers) I was probably making it too wet for gargoyle eggs (I used the same method and consistency as I did for Crested eggs). However I switched to perlite and have had 100% success hatch rate.

I too have had infertile leachie eggs - I'm putting my adults together this week. Shocked

Following a chat with Scott on the forum I no longer spray any of my Rhacs on a nightly basis. I do provide a large shallow water bowl in each viv and that works well. The only time mine get sprayed now is when they are coming up to a slough. I've been doing this for about 6 months now and have seen no difference in the behaviour or health to any of my Rhacs. Previously they were getting sprayed every evening.

Mainly because they don't need the humidity to be at a constant. Having the large water bowl in with them is sufficient. I do give the substrate a light misting every now and again to stop it going 'dusty'. Like I said I used to spray every night and haven't noticed any difference in not doing so. This way is working well for me.

All my Rhacs drink from the water bowl anyway so spraying the leaves for drinking purposes wasn't needed.
