You know what Scott.

I pop a heatmat under half the box a couple of hours ago.

Just went in to mist the chams and low and behold its like a bloody ordy in the locus box!! There are about 4 pairs at it (not bad as theres only about 10 locusts in there!!

Got a bag of adults coming tomorrow to add to the fun Smile

Was thinking of putting some proper mesh ventillation in the side of the box, going to staples to get some more RUBs tomorrow so all my livefood colonies can be stacked in one place Smile

Gary, whatever set up you use, have more than one of them. That way all you have to do is remove the egg laying tub from one bin and start a new colony in another. That way you get the same sized animals (roughly depending how often you remove the egg tubs) in each bin/cage.

You will eventually develop a cycle of constant rotation whereby several bins are functioning with different instars or stages of locust in each one which is useful if you are feeding a mixed collection. Basically keep the bins hot and dry and you will have a constant supply. Wink

Peter,

Right, that makes perfect sense, but at the moment I am using Really Useful Boxes and to keep buying big ones of them will cost a fortune and make the whole exercise pointless.

So, can you (or anyone else here) suggest a good choice of large plastic box to breed crickets and locusts in (separate of course!)

Will need to buy some in the next day or two!

Cheers

Gary

Just be wary of humidity with RUBs. 3 would do you fine for starters, build numbers up slowly. Will still be a huge saving. 5 colonies fed a pretty sizeable collection for me. Wink

Yeah humidity has been an issue that I am resolving.

Looking on ebay etc for cheaper but equally as good boxes!

Black bin covered over by mesh with a spot light on top of it works perfectly
