the higher the wattage the less it has to work to attain the heatin gin a smaller tank therefore increasing its life potential! I would say a 100w or 150w is ample I have some 250w ceramics heating some 3x18's!!!

Unless you're planning on heating your viv with a light and thus keeping it on the majority of the time (which would require a dimmerstat that i would say from reading your posts - you dont have) then the wattage of the lightbulb is rather insignificant as you're only going to be switching it on for short periods of time for viewing/cleaning/etc

Needless to say, the light should have a mesh guard and obviously should be below 20watts seeing as it is not going to be used to provide heat.

Wait till saturday, get your pocketmoney from your parents, buy a heatmat.

Trouble, his post reads that he will be heating his viv with a ceramic bulb. He doesn't for one moment state that he will be using it for light, besides, since when did a ceramic bulb ever 'light' a viv.

Personally however cossie, I think you would be better off using a 75 watt sunglo bulb on a proportional state to keep the temp at the required levels during the day. And a heat mat at night.

I personally use both for my royals and keep a nice even 30C in my 4 foot vivs withj a warm spot and a cool spot, ofc plenty of hides in each.

I dont really think a ceramic bulb would be needed in this set up. Just my 2 cents Very Happy good luck
