can anybody give me any advice about what i should do now that my geckos have mated,its the first time i have seen this and I'm very excited. should i take the male out now that he's mated with her or leave him in the Viv with her?

Congratulations BabygyalSW2, there is no need to remove the male. You may find they mate multiple times.

You might want to start thinking about providing a laying site for the female ( since you don't know if they have mated on an earlier occasion ) a small plastic tub, with a layer of moist vermiculite is ideal for this.

Also, you will need to think about building an incubator for when the eggs are laid. You can buy a 'ready made' incubator or you can build your own. To do this you will need a polystyrene box, your local pet / aquatics shop should be able to provide one for you - free or very cheap. You don't need a huge one!! On the base, in the inside of the box place a small heatmat, connect this to a thermostat. The sex of Leopard Geckos is determined by the incubation temperatures. Incubated at a temp of 80F and you would expect mostly females, 85F and you get a mix and at a temp of 88F you would expect mostly males. You will need a lunchbox type container to incubate the eggs in, again fill it with moist vermiculite to a depth of 3-4 centimeters. You will place the eggs directly onto this substrate, IN THE SAME POSITION THEY WERE LAID - DON'T TURN THEM. Raise the incubation box up off the floor of the poly box to allow for air movement and to prevent the eggs cooking. Phew, i think that covers the basics!!!!
