hey fellow varanid lovers!!!,
Does anyone have any info about these varanids, i think they look amazing and would like to learn some more about them, i know they are a subspecies of varanus salvator and have not got there own subspecies/ Latin name ( i could be wrong) else got any info on them??

Although previously known within the pet trade as "komaini", after the unofficial description of the (invalid) subspecies Varanus salvator komaini (Nutaphand, 1987), a recent taxonomic revision of the V. salvator complex (Koch et al., 2007) has synonymized this variant with V. salvator macromaculatus.
The only other literature that I am familiar with, are two recent papers on the captive reproduction of this subspeces, referred to in these papers as "V. s. komaini" (this was before the taxonomic revision). Authored by Quetzal Dwyer and Monica Perez, these papers can be found in the first and second issues of the first volume of Biawak, accessible at:
