More info and pictures.

With four big bumps in its belly, it looked like a python in an advanced stage of pregnancy.

But an X-ray revealed that the four round objects were too symmetrical to be eggs.

In addition, the 6ft snake was a male. Vets at an Australian zoo were fairly certain what the reptile, nicknamed Augustus, had been eating and an operation confirmed their suspicions.

A resident of bushland on the Queensland-New South Wales border, he'd been swallowing golf balls.

After finding Augustus, a couple living nearby called the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, south of Brisbane.

He was collected and presented to Dr Michael Pyne, senior vet at the sanctuary, who said: "After chatting with the people who brought him in to us, we soon worked out where he'd found the balls - and it wasn't on a golf course.

"People in the area have been putting golf balls under their brooding hens pretending that they are eggs to make the chickens happy.

"We think that the snake, which like all pythons enjoy swallowing chicken eggs if they can find them, slithered into the back yard, thought the golf balls were real eggs and tucked in."

Vets agreed Augustus would not have been able to pass the golf balls from his body naturally and decided on surgery to remove them.

He is expected to make a full recovery and will be released back into the wild in a couple of weeks.

There are pics on the link.

Latest information...
The Python is recovering well, although it is said to be feeling a little green. Experts have reported that it is unusual for the snake to have entered the coup and it may have done so due to being lost, they feel it was a fair way from home.
The Veterinary surgeon mentioned that although he had treated several reptiles, this was the first time he has had to cut a hole in one, he was surprised by the golf balls and would have expected to find a birdie or an eagle. Very Happy

Shall I stop now?.
