Hi
Just caught my beardies mating for 1st time, now I have to prepare for the egg laying. Could someone tell me
1 What sort of box/container I will need
2 When to put it in
3 What substrate should I use for her to lay in and how deep.
4 When to expect the eggs
I have an incubator already but what temp should it be set at.
Thank you

Hey there.
Different people have different methods, but.
My preferred method is using a medium sized container, say a RUB, contico or cat litter tray (unused obviously) and putting it full with damp vermiculite. I would then leave it for a day after laying has finished since they sometimes go back and drop a straggler or two.
By positioning it in a selected area one can monitor the temps and get it in a place where the heat will be just right for incubating, short term.
Other methods uncled.
Making a pile of sand in the corner (damp)
using a box of sand/sterile soil/cocoa humus, etc in the place of vermiculite
Using a smaller vivarium with a deep substrate when the female starts digging (also like this method if space allows, gives her privacy from the male)
And I'm sure there are others.
Eggs generally come 4-6 weeks after the first mating, but u may have missed it for a week or more so anytime between one and 5 weeks i guess.
About 10 days from when you first feel the eggs in her stomach.
Regards

Hi
Thanks for your reply, been watching the female for a few days and today i can see quite plainly the out line of eggs in her tummy, so shouldn't be too long now. So obviously they must have mated before i caught them at it lol. Can't wait so giddy. Just waiting for signs of her ready to clutch.
Regards
