As Im sure some of you are aware I resently bought one, but Im stuck as to which one he is. Ive looked at 100s of photos and now Im just confused, with people saying this is a red thats a Yellow (look the same to me ). Are they even sub-species or are they mearly natural colour mutations?
If they are sp. then is there any markers i should look for?
Any help or pointing in the right direction would be great.
Thanks

As far as I know, there have only been a handful of Red ackies imported, I don't know of anyone else in the UK to import any except myself and just recently Crystal Palace Reptiles, we both sourced our reds from Canada.
I have never seen any reds for sale in Europe, although I do know one Dutch guy who also imported a small number from Canada.
If someone is actually selling an ackie as a Red Ackie, ask where they got it from, if you have bought an ackie and are unsure as it was just labelled 'ackie' then it is just a yellow. Reds have not yet been bred in the UK (as far as I know, anyone feel free to update me ).
If you can get a good photo, one of it's back, looking from above and one of it's head from the side, that will help id it 100% (hopefully...lol) _________________

I actually bought him from CPR and was labeled as a "Spiny Tailed Monitor" (but then they also said he'd grow to 90cm) What ever they named it I knew what I was getting.
They had "Reds" as well, the same age as the one I bought, but i could see absolutly no difference other than price.
Im would post a pic, but the cameras useless for close ups. |

I would guess you have yellows, based on your last post. Some Ackies can get quite large.
I have attached a picture of some males I sold a few years ago, they were sold to me as reds (originaly came from Belgium). They seem to be intergrades. The largest male was well over 70cm.
I sold them in Hamm, everyone kept asking me why they were so big!!
Cheers

Hi Scott,
I have one animal, not sure what sex, probably female. Its a bit stunted due to having to relocate my collection for a while.
The ones Paul got from me are from these males. The females were considerably smaller and completely washed in red but were not "Red Ackies".
Cheers
