I have a pair of these which have been breeding nicely, which has confused me because i could never work out why the female wasn't laying any eggs. Well it turns out she has been laying them. . . . . and then eating them? I just spotted her munching away on an egg!! Any ideas on how i can stop her? i've been feeding them extra as it is as i was sure she was carrying eggs and have been providing extra calcium etc. it seems as though as soon as she lays the eggs she decides they'd make a suitable meal. What can i do????

In my experience, females will eat their infertile eggs. Also, if the female is disturbed during the egg laying process she may eat the eggs too. Are there enough secluded areas within the enclosure for her to lay while feeling secure?
Also ( please don't think i am being patronising ) are you 100% sure they are a pair? If not, the sexually mature female may simply be 'going through the motions' _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

lol no worries mate, not patronising at all am definitely sure though, i've watched them at it etc, female has classic bite marks on neck etc, and the male is most defintely a male!
They have a very large viv considering and they have a wide variety of places to hide and feel secure in, so i'm not sure its that either. the thing is i don't think this isn't just a one off, i think this is a regular pattern for her. maybe she's got a taste for them and now its just something she's always going to do? or as you say maybe the male is just bieng unsuccesful at fertilizing them and she's just ensuring they don't get wasted? hmmmmm its a puzzler! _________________
