Hiya, at that weight it must have been eating as they are not born that size. Any idea when it last ate, was it assist fed ? If you can get it eating by trying different prey items, i.e. rat pinkies or small mice, then as long as it puts weight on there will be no need to worry. Some young snakes eat HUGE amounts at first, but then go off feed for a while and the smaller ones just keep eating regularly and catch up... Wink Make sure that temps are correct, see other posts, and that a couple of hides are provided for it to feel secure. Do not handle until it settles down and starts to eat.

what is his behaviour like when in tub, when you are not trying to feed him? does he snuggle up in a hide, or go around mad as if trying to get out? is he in a tub or viv?

ah right, just read your post. with glasses on. first i would move to a tub. warm end should be 90-92. cool end 80. and no night time drops. 2 hides and water bowl, and kitchen roll on bottom. people used to say to me how small royals prefer the hides and liv ing spaces, and it really surprised me when i realised just HOW small. i have royals going around with hides on their backs, like snails, but they seem to like tis. ideally they should be able to touch all side of the hide when in it. do this and monitor what he is doing when left alone.

you can still use the dimmer, same principle as normal stats really ....till ya get a another stat if needed. viv is probs stressing him as well at that size.

As others have said, no night time drop. Try and get a warm hide temperature of 92-94f, with a cool end of 82f or as near as possible. Humidity as well could be causing the little chap problems. Should be between 40 - 60% and raised to 70% for shedding.

at that weight, try a 10litre 'Really Useful Tub' from Staples or Argos. Stick the tub on a thermostatically controlled heat mat, covering 1/3rd to 1/2 the tub. Put the probe on the heatmat so its not inside the tub, in case the snakes wee's on it and knocks temperature out. Put a few holes in the tub for air circulation and add you hides and waterbowl. Like others have said, use 2 small identical hides so it doesn't pick favourite hide over regulating his body temperature.

When feeding, offer a pinkie rat at ground level, as sometimes waving them around by the tail in the air, scares the heck out of them. Don't wave it in the snakes face.

Have you offered the feed to the snake with it still in its hide, rather than putting it into another tub?
