I have rescued one of the Yeman chams almost for a month now. It's a male and he has been pretty grumpy until lately. He looks pretty healthy but since he lets me handle him more now. I noticed he has NO NAILS on all his feet. I know he was being very neglected when he was with his previous owner (RSPCA has banned this guy having more pets now). I think from what I know of what this male cham was being treated, the owner might have pulled all the nails out of the cham's feet. Anyway, I would like to know if no nails would affect the cham health in a long term. As far as I can see is this cham canNOT really grip the tree branches properly if they are too thick, otherwise he seems okay to catch his food etc. I only just noticed his nails for a couple of days and I don't know if I should stress him out and take him to a herp vet for a check up (he was being checked before he came and live with me and I was not told he has no nails.)

Please advise. Thanks.

(I will take pic of the cham's feet if needed)

If they do not look sore/dirty/open wounds and I would leave him to settle in, but you will know if it looks bad enough for him to be rushed off straight away.

If your still unsure, ring your herp vet and talk it over with them Smile

No he has no wounds or anything anymore. It's like he has not toes Shocked I have him for just a month (few days over) and I noticed that he does not climb onto big thick branches. I'd never known the reasons until I noticed about his toes just a couple of days ago and I just couldn't get that look out of my mind. The skin around his legs grow over the area if you know what I mean. I just worry they might affect his health in the near future. He seems eating and drinking fine otherwise. Wink

My cham lost a nail when climbing his mesh, but it grew back eventually, just very very slowly.

Aslong as its not an open wound there is not much a vet could do anyway really.

Just make sure hes getting a correct diet and he should be fine.

Also I would take all the thick branches out and swop them with leaner ones for him.

I love chameleons little 'mitten' hands, so coote Rolling Eyes

Good luck Smile

Yes chams feet and their eyes caught my eyes in the first place and that's why I have so many now. They are just beautiful. Wink

Umm, good question.

I think in total I have 21 in total (different species) and just bought 2 babies from Rick... Embarassed I have to stop that @ one point. Some of them are free though as I always said I will rescue any if needed around where I live. But they are all equally being care for whether I have to pay or not. Mad

I only just started keeping snakes, not knowing much about them and still a beginner. They are nice but I think I just still with what I have got with snake, won't add more for a very long time at least. Wink

Nah, I am nowhere near to some of the members on here. They probably have 5 times or more than what I have got.
