ok

i bought a male spider in august/september for this years breeding season.

hes roughly 850-900 grams so a good weight.

have been cooling since mid october, and have followed guides like markusjayne etc.. have put female sheds in with him, female poo's, etc etc. have kept humidity right, have been giving 8-10 hours of light, dropping temps at night to hot spot 82 room ambient 78ish.

thing is, i had another male (which i thought was a female, and put him in with a girl to clean the tub up, and he was bang on her and tails were very nearly locked.. so i cant be doing much wrong regarding heating and temp..

he is producing sperm plugs, has gone off food, but when in with the girls he sits opposite end or coiled up inside there coil...

what i need is advice on how to get him to breed.. could it be possible that i have a male that just wont breed? he just seems not interested in females one bit.

All and any advice is appreciated.
Dave

It's not just a weight issue, 800grams doesn't always mean 'ready to breed'. All you need is pateince and just keep letting the male have his opportunity with the females, Try waiting until his or her's next shed then re-introduce again.

Try different females too.

ok scott

he is roughly 2yrs old, ill leave him on his own until i see a shed and then try that.

when placing him in with the females, is it advisable to remove everything (all i have is water bowl) ?

Dave, all I do is 'grab' a male, choose a lucky girl and put him in. If there's no action by the following morning I will move him to another or put him back on his own for a few days. I don't remove or do anything to the cages or their contents Wink

What is your day temps and night? Put your other male in to kick his ass into breeding or, swap the males over so each is the others cage and getting the smell of the other one, or place the other males shed into the male and females cage. If you only have the one male then try putting the female in the males cage or use multiple females. Try everything to change them about, that is the absolute key to breeding in my opinion. Spay light every 3 days as well to get the humidity up.

Sorry, just seen your temps. I have a 94 hot spot in the day and let it drop to 72-73 night. Drop the night time down a little.
