|
|
Our royal is now 18 months old and currently living in a 45x45x60 exo terra. As he's growing pretty rapidly now we are looking to give him some more floor space.
Height seems OK, he climbs all over the place, but as he is getting longer too, the current accommodation seems a bit cramped.
What size would folks recommend we move up to, can we move straight up to a viv that will last into fill adult size?
Thanks |

You can go straight to a full size 'adult' viv.
I'd suggest a size of 3ft x 2ft min. You can go much bigger if you wish, just ensure temps are ok and plenty of tight hiding spots at differeing temp ranges. _________________

Like Scott says, plenty of tight spots. Ball Pythons are very secretive and don't do well in large spaces. They are not great climbers but will do if given the chance, but are clumbsy and likely to fall. I would suggest that a 3ft long x 2ft wide is absolutely plenty big enough for its whole life. I definately wouldn't go any bigger than a 30 gallon set up for them. Given too much space and they will stress out and inevitably go off their feed. _________________ "When i'm a big boy I wanna avatar like Johonny. lmao and rofl" |

Did you really say that scott or have you been hacked?? Or is there something I am missing? they are talking about a royal?
Personnally I would say 3 x 2 is max so long as teh royal is doing well in it, 3 x 18 is better and ideal for an adult.
Only my opinion,

i think royals will do well in most sized vivs, it depends on which royal, and which viv.
you could probably manage this in one like Scott suggested, or a longer 4ft one, as long as the vivarium meets the temperature requirements... depends how flash you want to be, and how well you meet your snakes requirements Study your snake, and don't sell your exo terra too quick |

Mike, I'd have no concerns at all putting ANY feeding royal into a viv 12ft x 6ft, so long as it's CORRECTLY set up. All this talk about small vivs are better for the snake are only half true, it's more about temps and security which you can provide in any size viv. The reason I say that size min for a royal in a viv is that most people will be using a spot lamp or ceramic to heat the viv, both of these need a larger air space to prevent them heating up the whole viv at the same temp (which takes away choice for the snake). _________________

Thanks guys, will go for a bigger one withlots of furniture, he has a very busy viv now and loves to curl up inside tree trunks and barks, but in the evenings he is pretty active and loves to climb all over the place. I think 3ft of ground space would be good for him, more room to explore |

Well at least you know now that in the event that he becomes busy and goes off his food, you know that he will need putting in a small set up straight away. Business and going off food is a sure sign of stress.
Best of luck. _________________ "When i'm a big boy I wanna avatar like Johonny. lmao and rofl" |
