Hi, i've only had my Yemen since thursday but have spent weeks reading up and setting up my viv. Fingers crossed he likes it. Now a couple of questions..
1)Since Tim arrived all he does is eat, is this ok or should i cut down whats available to him.
2)As soon as the lights go out he goes straight to sleep, i mean almost instantly wherever he happens to be. He then only wakes when the basking light comes on no matter what else is going on in the room. I currently don't have a dimmer on the light i just switch the light off then go back and switch the UV light off around 10 mins later and then later again the room lights. Do you recomend a dimmer for him so he knows whats coming.
3)What does it mean when he sits there with his mouth open, he did it for a few hours yesterday. I thought he was thirsty but if i sit and watch him for half an hour he drinks loads from his dripper.
Thanks in advance

Hi Liz..... Is your boy a baby? if so let him snarf all he wants, they know when to stop, babies can eat for England
I would def get a dimmer, as turning lights on and off will only confuse him and give him stress, and it would most likley sort out the gaping too, as he is most likley to hot, so a dimmer would help a great deal to regulate temps in his viv _________________

1) Wouldn't have thought he'd eat too much. If he starts looking overweight then stop, but it's usually a pretty good sign
2) I don;t have a dimmer, but you're right, a dimmer might be a great idea for a gentle wake-up and sleep routine. It certainly wouldn't hurt.
3) Mouth open could be a threat...is he trying to make himself look big as well? _________________

Yeah he's only small about 8cm long excluding his tail, i'll keep the food in good supply then untill he looks a bit porky.
Off to buy a dimmer tomorrow then, i didn't realise he'd be so sensitive to the light.
Not sure it's a threat thing, he's quite shy and just disapears into his plant when he's spooked. I was quite impressed with him earlier he took a cricket from me that i was holding in a small pair of tweezers.
Thanks for the replies. |

What temperatures and humidities have you got in the viv? Karen might be right about the temperature.... _________________

Basking spot is at 85, the very bottom of the viv is around 70 and the humidity is 60%. |
