What about that Bear Grylls character. I can understand he is doing a survival show, but since he is in no danger is there any reason for him to do more than say, this is edible, tastes like chicken etc.

Last night as I was channel surfing, he was killing and cooking a sand boa, which his native guide obviously didn't agree with. Again previously he has killed turtles and muched on live frogs as if they were revels (or similar filled confectionary).

I don't watch the show but have been unfortunate to stumble on it twice.

I'm not aware of the likes of Ray Mears or Bruce Parry doing similar, unless it is party of the way of life of the tribes they are living with.

Anyone else got an opinion?

I was kinda horrified the first time i saw him, i didn't quite know what the programme was about and turned it over to see this bloke holding a small frog, thinking it was a nature programme i thought i'll watch it ... only to see him then put it in his mouth and chew on it! ... I was kinda shocked, seen him do the same with everything living he kinda comes across .... i think he can just say 'these are edible' without biting the heads off stuff, but hell what do i know!

Ray Mears is a plonka... remember one of his programs he's doing the survival thing at camp needs some tools or some such.. what does he make a cheese board! I'm lost with out necessities what should I do hmm make a stupid cheese board! Rolling Eyes

Bruce isn't about being survivalist, it's more about living as one of the tribe their way which could include threading live frogs on twine or ripping a baby monkey from it's dead mother..

I've only seen one of Bear's programs where he cut a hole in the ice caught a trout and ate it alive.. like you would have to if you where in that situation..

On the one I saw, he ate a live snake, just bit the head off and ate the rest, I thought what a 'knuckle shuffler', then he spent the night throwing up..... that bit was funny, pity he didn't choke on it though...
He can't know much if it made him ill Smile
