Hiya,
again, I have a question and I hope you can help me... I have a young beardie which suffered from coccidia. I have been to a vet (Reptile Specialist in East Sheen, London) & he has treated him with Coxiplus. This failed. The next trial was with Septin Paediatric & we will send in the next faecal sample soon to check the result.
For the coccidia treatment, we have now an invoice to pay, which is about £ 120 !!!!!! Is this normal? To me, it seems quite exaggerated.. Unfortunately, I am not able to compare prices as this is the only vet which is local and treats reptiles.
For the faecal sample (egg count) we were charged 25 £ and because I could not pick up the medicine they have sent it to us & charged 12,50 £ for an envelope and first class recorded postage... For one (!!!) small plastic catheder through which we feed the beardie the medicine, they charged us 6£..
I am really angry, because for example in Germany a treatment for coccidia costs approx 50 EUR if it is really expensive.
What do you think about such fees. Is this common? Does anybody knows a vet in SW London who has reasonable fees?
I would be happy for any feedback.
Thanks & regards |

Having been through this myself with mine and a mates (9 beardies in total) I have to say that sounds extorsionate.
-£5 fecal exam
-£25 (approx) for complete course of treatment. inc suringes.
Then another fecal exam to make sure theres nothing left.
So TOTAL: £35 (asuming the second fecal exam doesnt show anything)
I now get a fecal exam whenever I get a new animal within the first week and another 1 month later to make sure theres nothing there. |

I think that if you go to ANY shop or Vet in east Sheen you are going to get charged over the top prices, it is a very expensive area.
There is a reptile vet in Charlton SE7 next to the Thames barrier who is supposed to be good ( i have never been there but have heard nothing bad only good ), and it isnt that hard to get too if you drive. A205 south circular all the way, almost to the door
You could also ring up first to get some prices.

PS....One of the staff (Peter) is into Dart frogs in a big way and also keeps other reptiles as well _________________ People laugh at me because I am different
I laugh at them because they are all the same. |
