Hi, i feed my royal last night same procedure as usual. my girlfriend gets the rat out about 1 or 2 in the afternoon and puts it in a tuperwear tub to defrost during the day then at about half 9 i use a hair dryer to warm it up (about a one min) and then i hold it in there with my tongs and if she comes out she usually strikes for it if she doesn't i just leave it in there and its gone by the morning. well last night she came out and struck it and coiled it and then it kinda burst Shocked she didn't seem bothered and continued to wipe it across the glass before eating it Mad . just wondering if i could of warmed it up to much? or as she shed and done a rather large poo that morning if it was cos she was really hungry and gave it abit too much of a sqweeze? or a combination of the both?

My second question is when she shed yesterday morning it didn't come off in one piece but it did all come off from what i can tell. my temps seem to be fine (82 cold end, 92 warm end, ambient about 84) and the humidity is usually in between 50 and 60% but because i new she was coming up to shed i was spraying the viv every or every other day to keep humidity just above 60% do you reckon she needed more humidity? if so i can always move her water bowl to the warm end when shes going to shed?

anyway thanks for reading

probs just squeezed with gusto ! I was talking with another member here ( yesterday ) about the same thing happening ( well it actually went on his mates face , classic ...soz had to giggle ) doubt very much if it was too warm or hot, just squeezed the bahgeesus out of it I think ! I t can happen ( gross ! )

as for shed ...temps are good all round , did you check shed skin for eyecaps ? you could move water bowl nearer to heat source , help a bit . want it higher than normal after eyes have cleared. other than that dont change a thing Bud

on his mates face Laughing that's something to talk about down the pub. well iam glad its probably not to do with me warming it up.

As for the shed, the eye caps came off. i found the head piece and you could see them so i think ill just leave it set up as it is and see what happens next time. then if need be the time after that ill move the water bowl to the warm end and see if that makes a difference.

thanks for your reply Pete

I have two here that no matter what the humidity levels are they won't shed perfectly in one go, they will do a perfect shed in two or three peices, as long as it all comes off fine I don't worry with those two.

I have had it happen with smaller sized rats but never big or adult sized.
