3 probably really stupid questions Embarassed

Does anyone insulate under their heat mats/strips on their racks, and if they do with what? I just want to make sure the heat all goes UP into the RUB and I don't loose any through dispersion through the shelf bottom.

When building my prototype rack I've cheated and used chipboard as I could get it in exactly the lengths I wanted and I can't cut straight for toffee, and the Hubby is even worse. Obviously humidity will be an issue, and I don't want to rick mold, collapse or anything else nasty, will I be safe using water based floor varnish, a couple of coats to seal them? I know it's used with vivs safely if it's left long enough to ventilate before installing occupants Smile

What sort of ambient room temps does everyone aim for with royals? I have just shared out our wardrobe with the rack, and 2 of the walls are exterior walls, which I'm planning on insulating with the insulating boards that go under laminate flooring (I have plenty left over) I just want to make sure that the ambient room temp is good all the way around the room, as i don't want them to end up with RI Infections.

Basically I'm worried sick I'm going to make a stupid mistake and it will be detrimental to their health, and I really want them to be happy. There are just some things that books don't tell you, unless I'm reading all the wrong books Laughing

Thanks for any help o ye wise ones!

Claire

Hi Geckoguy

Thanks for answering, glad someone did. I've got the rack and the occupants all sorted and happy now, but thought I would say thanks anyway.

What I meant was does anyone put anything under their heatstrips that are under the rubs, apart from the shelf to insulate so that ALL the heat rises Very Happy
