How often are your snakes handled, as i have a fare amount of young pythons and boas, though most of them have a calm disposition there are the one or two who seem to have a taste for human flesh.

Obviously I would prefer to have calm manageable adults for obvious reasons.

So interested to know how often other keepers are handling there animals to bring this behavior about.

Personally I enjoy having them with out having to interact with them all the time. For example the same way fish keepers enjoy there animals, as i feel this keeps them relaxed as opposed to being continually handled?

What are your views? Question Question

Some of mine I handle a couple of times a week and others only when cleaning..as long as they are managable and tolerate you handling when cleaning them, thats fine with me..only ones I try and handle a bit more often are the larger ones like the burms as don't fancy dealing with a stroppy adult burm..lol..I certainly never felt the need to handle any snake daily in order to calm it..

I handle whenever I feel like it.

Only got a royal at the moment but I get the urge to.

Only a few times a week now tho.
Like to leave her alone most of the time.

I handle mine when I am cleaning them or changing the water usually, try to handle as little as possible with the royals but the hoggies tend to be out whenever they can as they will come out on their own.

It depends on the snake (or lizard). I tend to handle the Boa most often, although this is only a couple of times a week. I do this because I want to keep her used to being handled as she may grow rather large. I also handle the Bullsnake a couple of times a week too, as I have come across a few 'feisty' Bulls and again, I want to keep this one used to handling.
My Kingsnakes and Milks get less handling (usually just when cleaning out) as they are rather calm. Saying that the Milk and the Greybanded are very secretive and so I respect that and leave them to it.

I agree Stuart.

Wouldn't be to keen on having a stroppy monster to deal with.

My burm i used to have was an angel though she always managed to soil our carpet in our front room when she came out for an exploration of the house, her way of showing her affection I guess Laughing

Whats your view on say bloods, carpets,Bridles n Brb or any others that top out about 6'-8' Question Question Question

Only time that I handle mine ( royals and burmese ) are when they are cleaned out or helped with a shed.
My carpet pythons slightly more often, cpl times a week maybe 3. Purely becase I want them to realise that Im not going to eat them before they are bigger! They are 07's.

I used to keep a lot of bloods and tbh they were fine with fairly minimal handling..I used to handle certain individuals more than others depending on their temperament..Thats why I always like to get babies as you get to know the snakes personality and what it will and won't tolerate etc..

My bloods i used to handle a few time a week, cos i didnt fancy taking a bite from one.

Royals i handle when ever the mood takes me as i find mine are quite relaxed. now it seems only when cleaning out and changing the water.

As for my BRB's i tend to get these out a bit more just cos they still amase me. Very Happy

As for the BCC he is once again very calm so not very offen but when i frist got him as an adult i handled him at least every other day just cos of this size.

3-4 times a week maybe? I don't know if my thinking is stupid but it feels like the snake'd get even more used to it and therefor stand less a chance of getting agressive.
