Hi all.

Do any of you have pictures of your flexarium setups?

I am particularly interested in the type of heatlamps you are using.

Also any other Chameleon setup pics would be great to see Smile

What type of cham might the set up be for?

I use externally mounted zoo med clamp lamps housing spot lamp basking bulbs, tight beam, ranging from 60watt -100watt dependant upon the species of cham, all lamps provide heat / light in just one specific area of the viv and are connected to dimmer stats thus regulating the basking area temperature. Lamps placed in one area so that a heat gradient is created within the viv allowing for the cham to thermoregulate as it wishes, eg hot basking area cool ambient temps at other side / end of viv.

All basking areas are approximately set at 8-10 inches from the heat source (basking bulb). The temp gauge lead from the dimming stat is fixed to the branch directly at the basking spot so that actual basking temp can be set and monitored. I also double check ambient and basking spot temps with a digital in / out two way temp gauge, permanently set up in viv.

Set up for my baby / sub adult chams is very different from the above, I only use 20 watt halogen lamps for heat as a full set up basking lamp is way to fierce for wee chams.

Hi Rick,

I have three yemens now, based on your advice I am using 40w desklamps for a localised heatspot.

All re doing great! However its not the nicest looking setup!

If they are baby yemen's then basking temp can be quite high about 95f ambient down to 75f. adult Yemen basking temps d can go as high, about 100f. Yemens coming from the Yemen region of Saudi Arabia can take it hot and enjoy it. They also tollerate cool night time temps and need a good drop in temp at night, again to reflect their natural environment temps.

As far as achieving a nice looking viv goes, white stripped willow branches are nice, of fake bendy vines, or some nice oak branches of various thickness. Yemens like dense foliage so a few potted ficus and a few fake plastic hanging plants draped over everything.

the lamp on the left is a ceramic heat bulb, high UV along the back with reflector and dayglow lamp on the right. Also have a heat mat under nesting pot at bottom when in use.
Plants used past and present : yukka, umbrella plant, ficus, rubber plant.
various jungle vines and a moss filled pole (its plastic fencing oustide stuffed with imitation moss - got it from garden centre)which is brill for making a ladder with and holds water to prolong humidity. Water is dripped from container above which has always been in same place so Bud just goes up there and looks at the container when she wants an extra drop of pop Wink

Not right now, i'll see what I can do.

To be honest its not the end of the world, just looking for ideas. Currently have 2 small yemens in exo terras and a larger one in a flexarium, however I hope to upgrade in the next few months (then the youngens are a bit bigger, they are both needed 1-1 care).

One i took in wasnt eating or drinking, now its doing both.

The other has a lump on its mouth which I am keeping an eye on.

We REALLY need decent chameleon cages with made to fit lighting and UV fittings so everything looks neat!

I only just managed to bodge together a mouse breeding rack!!

Having said that, I suppose its not SUCH a mad idea building my own.
