This forest has so much to offer, we visited a few places within the forest yesterday and only went for a couple of the shorter walks but there is enough to do to keep us returning time after time. I can't believe I have lived so close for the last couple of years and not known what joys it holds. I've been looking for somewhere down south that I would enjoy as much as the lake district and I finally think I've found it.
The forest is host to a variety of wildlife including Fallow deer, Badgers, Foxes, Otters, Dormice,Squirrels, Peregrine falcons, Goshawks and Buzzards. Grass snakes and Adders can also be found here.
We visited the Sculpture Trail, Cannop ponds, Mallards pike,
Next to Mallards Pike is Go Ape, Hire wire forest adventure which is exhilarating fun for anyone without a fear of heights, but is only suitable for over 10s and adults.
If you are an outdoors type there is bound to be something to keep you happy within this forest, you can try canoeing, hiking, cycling, orienteering, horse riding, golf, fishing, swimming, paintballing, quad biking, kayaking, caving, climbing, off road driving, camel and llama trekking , mountain boarding, mountain biking, BMX, diving, abseiling, raft building, fungi foraging, the list goes on and on. There is also a Christian adventure centre and a gymnastics centre.
So for anyone else who enjoys the above mentioned activities or simply the natural beauty of forest scenery and lakes then here is a link to a really good website with more info

Now for a few photographs I took - sorry not many landscapes and no reptiles, mainly mushrooms as I love to forage .
and this one I played around with in photoshop a bit

nice pics Angi, it sure looks like a very nice place. I'm not that happy about the days getting shorter, but I do like this time of year because of all the nice colours and all the interesting mushrooms you can find. |
