Hello,
I was wondering if anyone kept any of the leaf-tailed species of gecko? I know they are not terribly common and they are a bit harder to keep, but I am very interested in possibly getting some next year.
I have been waiting for years to get into reptiles more ie getting my own house etc, and have two cresties, a snake and a beardie at the mo, am getting some Gargs soon too, and possibly some mourning geckos..
Just thought I would put some feelers out, as I do not have many contacts in the herp world now if it was marine fish I'd be sorted....
Thanks

Hi there
I keep Uroplatus ebenaui, I would keep others too but they are so incredibly difficult to find. I only know three people keeping them in the UK, Im sure there are more.
Unfortunately you cannot import them into the country anymore( due to CITIES protection) , Ive tried asking about importing captive bred specimens from America as there are tonnes kept and bred there, but customs wont have it. I do not know how America are still getting them imported as wild caught.
Your best bet is to try going to the European shows, such as Hamm and Houten ( I managed to pick up captive bred ebenaui from Houten). _________________ Cheers Angi

A friend of mine keeps several different forms of U. phantasticus there easy to find in european shows if you find a breeder beforehand but their captive requirements are extremely fragile! |

As I understand it, Europe banned the import of Madagascan wildlife, rather than Madagascar banning exports. That means the rest of the world can still export from Madagascar, it's just Europe that can't! _________________ European Protected Species Licensing - Do you know enough?

CITES 2 animals are pretty easy to move from country to country for re export of CB animals.
Madagascar still exports alot to the US as far as I know becuase both the uroplatus and mantellas come in regularly to the US. _________________ Paul

Have you tried? Dendrobatid frogs are also CITES 2 and they are moved between the US and EU on a regular basis _________________ Paul
