I currently keep my royal in my Viv stack but i want to move him to a tub so i can use the Viv space for a future coastal carpet.
My stack is heated by ceramic's an dimmer stat's how do you heat a really useful tub is just a matter of sit it on a heat mat connected to a mat stat or is there any other way to do it.
only asking cos i have all ways used Viv's, even though my baby carpets are in tubs at the mo but they are housed inside my stack until they get big enough to have a Viv each. _________________ 1.0.0 royal python

Most use heat mats on a stat either a mat stat or pulse stat will be good. _________________

In that case a trip to eBay to get a mat and a stat
an that leaves me with a 3x2x2 Viv free for another addition _________________ 1.0.0 royal python

Hi there. I'm new to this forum and have owned royals for 6 months. I've just moved 2 to tubs and its very easy. i use 2 large habistat heat mats, one for the warm ends and one for the cool ends. I place a thermostat probe on the warm end mat on top of where the warm hide will be. The tubs are then placed on the mats and then all the decor, hides, water etc are placed inside the tub. Lids on and that's it. The second heat mat is used to control the cool end ambient temp this time of year. You'll have to tweak the thermostat until the desired temp is reached in the warm end hide. |

Tis very bad idea, if thermostat breaks you can end up with cooked snake.
In ALL set ups, of every description, there needs to be a way for the animal to escape too much heat if the worse happens
there has always got to be a cool end that cannot get too warm.

you'll probably find that if the thermostat breaks it won't work at all hence no heat mat operation. |

Upto you what you do, but my advice is have an area that cannot get too hot if the worse should happen. Thermostats can get stuck on.
Also royals are not very good at sensing too much belly heat and can burn.

Okay Mike. I hear where you're coming from and it makes sense, but what if I can only get 77f in the cool end without an additional heat source?
by the way, saw your post with the male and female and also the albino. Nice snakes |

hi and thanks
I dont worry about the cool end, I just concentrate on getting the warm end about right. then let the snakes decide
Even in summer I dont think the cool end in my rack gets to 77f.
