Hi Stuart, that was the Tamron 90mm. I wasnt sure what to do as I havent tried a shorter one but was taking some bird pics with the 90mm yesterday and I think it is probably a better bet than the 50/60mm range. What about the sigmas? they were top of the indipendants a few years ago, but im just really getting back into photography again and alot of folk are putting me off the 105mm.

oops..read the exif wrong lol...the tamron 90mm di is one of the best macros on the market but in all honesty most macros produce amazing quality images..I have had the sigmas and prefer the tamron but thats personal choice, they are still superb lenses.
Don't understand why people are putting you off the 105mm range?..For reps I find the 90mm or 105mm perfect but the sigma 150mm will give you a little more distance from your subject which is good for nervous or venemous reps. Then there is the sigma and tamron 180mm which are both optically great and will give you even further working distance. _________________

People arent putting me off the focal length, but the sigma macro in general. Bad write ups or something.

mmm I had one and it was a good lens..it does hunt a bit but most macros will in auto focus..I got good results with mine but do prefer the tamron..it just seems sharper to me. _________________
