So I have decided to breed rats or mice?

I am fed up with the pet shop not having the right size that I want.
Also knowing what they have eaten

Most of my snakes eat rats so I am thinks of breeding rats but what is easier rats or mice?

Do they smell? (thats what the missus wants to know) Very Happy

Male mice have a very strong scent to them, rats are far cleaner and smell less.

As for breeding, well they are both easy and without issues so go for what you need most of.

i find both rats and mice honk a bit but nothing major if they are cleaned out regularly and if it was from a 'purely for the enjoyment' aspect i would keep rats but i do like my mice too they just arent as clever and cunning as the rats

Either really, I guess it all depends on what variety of snakes you have and what sizes you need tbh.

It is as easy to keep rats as it is mice, the problem comes when they have to be culled - the rats are sooo sweet and individual. I hate culling any of the rodents but do tend to let the ratties get too large 'cos I cannot face k....ing them..... Crying or Very sad Breeding stock is expanding rapidly as in each litter there are always a couple of girls that CANNOT be k....ed Rolling Eyes

I will have to keep them outside in shed, which has the boiler in but no window.

Will they still breed.

books or the internet arent great for that kind of information i have mice in the shed but with two painted over plastic windows i dont think much light would come from them and the mice seem to be fine. keep in mind they are nocturnal
