A very good article worth a read, some of the issues raised in said article could be levelled at other WC / CF species. For me the subject matter highlights sensible precautions to be taken with newly aquired herps.

I posted the whole article on here without realising I needed permission to do this. So have removed article as requested by the owner of Chameleonnews. Links to the articles however are fine.

Ah,

Now there is another article somewhere about a specific virus carried by mellers...Known to be particularly virulant when introduced to another chams blood. This may be based on the the parson/meller case and to be fair i did not pay huge attention to it. Now i can't find it!

Interesting though. Def a case of with WC you never know what they may have. Like this pair of chams i saw at Hamm, was sorely tempted but i had never even heard or seen the species before. God knows what they were carrying as they were without doubt dodgy as hell.

I found the article interesting, yes its well known imported melleri have extremely poor survival rates and that they are one of the worst chameleons in terms of nasties that they can carry. But one could suggest to varying degrees that any imported herp may be prone to similar issues.

For me the point is about awareness and informed choice so that the appropriate safeguards can be taken. Mainly though it certainly shows the need for good quality captive breeding programmes, which I dont think anyone would disagree with.
