Thought this may do better posted here ....
Is there any chance, when u guys list your reps u can list the common name too, i love seeing all the new reptiles out there but when u call them just by their Latin name (if that's what it is) i don't actually know what I'm looking at? ..
I would be most grateful! ...
Cheers

Scientific names are so much easier. Everywhere in the world reptiles have the same scientific name. So you get no mistake of what species you are looking at. And besides that for example in The Netherlands not all reptiles have an Dutch name or more that one name in Dutch. That doesn't work, so it is just easier to learn scientific names. _________________ Proud owner of

I have to say that I google most latin names, and to be honest, that is where I find the best information for that animal. Searching common names often produces disappointing results. _________________ 31August2008-Kent Reptile Show (Amphibians & Inverts welcome) for more information & Booking e:mail: mrac@sky.com |

As I already have said:
Sure.. I can do that. But I hope that you in return tries to learn at least some of the scientific names..
I actually have a problem with the common names, as they are not the same in Swedish as in English.. _________________ *** Miqe ***

Itīs not that difficult when you get the hang of it..
Many names tells you how the animal is looking:
Punktatus = with small dots.
Guttata = with blotches.
Lineata = with line.
Bi = 2 of something.
Tri = 3 of something.
Now, figure out what "quatuorlineata" means..
And some names are telling you how an animal are in another way.
Atrox = cruel / mean
..and others have names after itīs discoverer or some other person. _________________ *** Miqe ***

Perfect! Absolutley right!
Meaning "with 4 lines".
I have a species named Elaphe quatuorlineata. First name tells you witch "family" it is, next name is the species own name.
And ALL scientific names should be writter in italic style.
Itīs actually not harder that that.. _________________ *** Miqe ***
