So ive got two glass aquariums lying around and ive wanted Dendrobates for a while now.

Can different morph Auratus/Terribilis live together?
How do you breed fruit flies?
Where can you get hold of termites?
What kind of moss do people use?
What kind of leaves do people use for leaf litter?
Do people treat the expanding foam backgrounds before subjecting it to such high humidity?
Do dendros utilise plants placed at different heights on the background?

Thanks in advance!

You are not allowed to keep them in this country,

Wait for MJ, i think the covering in a PVA mix or silcone is enough though.

Depends on the species ??

Just like negri said, and they will like take over, i dont really know i got told your not jsut did not ask, should have done.

Out of the species you say, i would not say azureus (well there a good starter frog but they can be abit on the expenisve side).
Auratus and leucs are both good starter frogs though, i can only talk about leucs as not got any auratus "yet". Leucomelas is i think one off the more climbing ones you said, azureus being the least,

How big is the viv ???

I got one 2ft x 1ft x 18" (LxDxH)

and one 18" x 16" x 15" (LxDxH)

The smaller iwas hoping for the leucs. Thats what I'm hoping to get first (hopefully at Basildon Show).

Yer you should be able to keep some leucs in that one, it is just over 15 gallons. Do you have any plans for how you want the viv to look etc, i would say stay away from a water fall though, as really you need a bigger viv, will take some off the floor space up, one a personal note i dont like the fact they might drown in one.
Ps, i will have some for sale soon if you dont find some at the show.

Can different morph Auratus/Terribilis live together?

To expand on KJ's no... the main reason in this excample would be agression between the two species, another possible hybridization and since amphibians are on a major decline in SA due to loss of habitat, chytrid ect it's not a good idea.. Also P. terribilis need slightly cooler temps than your average auratus. The mixing of colour morphs of auratus also is a no no.

How do you breed fruit flies?
easy:

take a culture of flies and put some into a fresh container containing media (home made or ready mixed dry stuff works well, UB will soon be carrying a popular media mix Wink ) and a scrunched up sheet of bounty... leave in a warm place watch for larvea and with in 2 weeks your have more flies repeat this every week once the flies are producing well and you have it sussed get your frogs.. always best to start culturing about a month before you get the frogs.

Where can you get hold of termites?

I wish you could get them in this country they are a great feeder source for dendro... sadly you cant and you cant import them either..

Other food items that are accepted are:

Micro crix
some roach nymphs (for larger frogs)
aphids (again easy to culture)
Springtails (awesome feeder high in calcium and easy as to culture)
Firebrats (not real easy to culture but again a good food item for larger frogs)

What kind of moss do people use?

I use Java, wild collected, tropical pillow and ricicia

What kind of leaves do people use for leaf litter?

I use Oak, Magnolia and dead bromeliads.... the thing to remember is they need to have fallen from the tre them selves other wise they will rot down at a fast rate. Always wash the leafs

Do people treat the expanding foam backgrounds before subjecting it to such high humidity?

The expanding foam is designed to fill gaps and crack in window frames and is water resistant any how so no yu don't need to treat it.

Do dendros utilise plants placed at different heights on the
background?

all of my frogs use every inch of the vivarium be they "terrestrial" or "arboreal" so yes they will use all of the vivarium and there for use all plants in the viv.

Ok Pauls goes one better Razz Paul do you keep Firebrats, if so how ??? (make a new post if you wish so not to hijack this thread)

I forgot i use dead brom leaves on the floor as well, in one viv i just have leaves on the floor and any plant leaves that fall off, in my eyes looks natural when you look at there wild habits. An i forgot the furit fly bit sorry MJ sorted you out there though Smile
