I have 2 giant mellers chameleons from my friend who is a tradesman. he did unfortunately say they were not captive bred (I would not have got them if I have known). I have a male and female in separate Viv's both of a nice size and weight, and was wondering about breeding them, and how to go about this. i have been on the Internet, but lots of people have differing advice sometimes, especially from UK and USA etc. I also wondered if anyone had any pictures of their chameleon set ups at all just out of curiosity. Or to save you the trouble, if you know any good web sites??? many thanks, Ratmolfe

Good luck, as you most likely know they are extremely hard to sex and dont reach sexual maturity till about 2 years of age, so you are very lucky to have a proven pair as they are very hard to sex.
This is the best website i know for information, i dont know wether i gave you it the last time you asked for info.

An awful lot of WC mellors die due to stress and parasite load, a lot of these things dont manifest them selves for a good while, have you wormed them? just a thought Very Happy

Wc mellors can also have a particularly virulant virus that thay carry. Can decimate a whole collection. Take it they have been quarantened and wormed like Karen said?

Lots of previous threads on Mellors. They can be bred in captivity, mine bred and I had a clutch of 92 eggs, 75 of which made it through to hatching out. But there are many factors to take into account. First job is to ensure the ones you have are 100% fit and healthy.

WC / CF Mellors sadly do not have a good survival rate, and are one of the harder species to breed.

Sexing them is even more difficult. But on one of the previous mellor threads I included a sexing guide and there are also posts on the courtship / breeding behaviour of the melleri that I posted on this swection. Might be worth trawling back through the cham threads, some will be titled either George / Mildred (names of the parent melleri) or Mellors.

Good luck.
