Hey folks,
Hoping someone can answer this OK. I bought a medium sized rat for my boa yesterday morning and seeing as how they take a while to defrost I just left it in my room still wrapped in its newspaper. However come night time I totally forgot about it and it's still lying there. My question is will it be ok to feed Tiree when I get home from work (6pm) or should I not risk it? I've no idea how long there can be between defrosting and feeding as I normally just feed them as soon as their food has defrosted.
thanks in advance

Personally I would throw it and defrost another one..especially with the warm weather we are having at the mo..Just defrost one in a jug of hot water for half hour or so.. Cool

Well my parents don't like them in the freezer so we don't keep any there. They'll just need to wait until Sunday to get fed now.

The advantage of living alone no one to get upset about the rodents in the freezer. A friend of mine though has a similar problem with his partner, He keeps his snake food in an opaque container (a large marge tub for example) so that they aren't visable. I think it is more the phsycological effect than the actual physicality of them being there.

When my mum visits she says the same but goes in the freezer anyway. When I know she is coming food gets put into a cookies and cream ice cream tub and she doesn't realise. She hates that flavour so no chance of an unpleasant suprise.

Do you have enough to buy one of those small can fridge things hold about 6 ccans, usually sold for kids. You know the ones about £20 from argos or what ever, This you can keep in your room and that way can atleast keep the food cool during defrost in the hot whether. I have been trying to find a link but the argos site ain't working for me.

Though back on topic. I am with the others bin it and get another.

Oh well I bought them some fresh stuff on Sunday. I've not really any room in my room for a little fridge sadly.

In any case it's my dad that has the problem. In fact he doesn't even know we feed the snakes rodents. Anyone remember those "Snake Steak" things you used to be able to buy? He thinks they eat those as he's one of those sort of animal rightsy vegetarians. Quite how a whole rat differs to a rat that's been put through a food processor and wrapped in a sausage skin is beyond me. I think he thinks everything in my room eats them come to think on it, we tell him we have to dangle tiny bits of them with a thread in front of the tarantulas. Rolling Eyes

Crunche surely you have room for a little fridge for defrosting. When I say little I am talking about the size of a 6 pack of drinks cans. They are about the size of a small stereo system speaker.
